Administrative law is a body of law which governs the activities of administrative agencies of government, including rulemaking, adjudication, or the enforcement of a specific regulatory agenda.1 Administrative law deals with the decision-making of administrative units of government (for example, tribunals, boards or commissions) that are part of a national regulatory scheme in such areas as police law, international trade, manufacturing, the environment, taxation, broadcasting, immigration and transport.2 Civil law countries often have specialized, administrative courts, which are tasked with reviewing these decisions.3 This paper will discuss the complexities of the adjudication process of a veteran of the United States Armed Services’ appeal of a decision on the veteran’s claim — based on some perceived wrong to the veteran while in service to the United States Military — to the United States Department of Veteran Affairs, as well as the Department of Veteran Affairs’ role in the administrative law process.
